Blackburn is gearing up for a BIG Christmas Street Fair this Saturday when around 100 traders come to the town to bring a range of Christmas crafts and treats along with street food and drink.
The BIG Christmas Street Fair, which runs from 10am to 6pm on Saturday 10th December 2016, is being organised by Blackburn Business Improvement District (BID) and will see 4 large marquees built across the town centre from King William Street to the new Cathedral Square. The event will also feature a great range of street food and drink, with visitors able to get into the festive spirit with a Prosecco bar, mulled wine and cider, pimped hot chocolate and a bright red double decker bus bar.
A wide range of traders have signed up for the event including crafters, artists, food, confectionery and gift suppliers. The organisers are hoping many people will choose Blackburn to pick up unique presents for Christmas and enjoy a range of entertainment and the fantastic street food.
Entertainment for the whole family
There will be music from traditional barrel organs, local musicians and the choristers of Blackburn Cathedral. Spectacular street theatre will add to the mix, when Blackburn Market host some incredible winter themed attractions. The Winterbottoms are larger than life walking, talking snowmen and women who just love to mix and mingle. Giant Penguins have also chosen Blackburn for their holidays when they descend on the town in their distinctive Hawaiian shirts.
A highlight is also expected to be the appearance of the Snow Lion when visitors can witness the mystery and majesty of the largest lion to walk the earth!
The stars from King George’s Hall pantomime, Dick Whittington and his Cat, will also be visiting the market on the day.
Harriet Roberts, manager of the BID, said, “People have wanted street fairs in Blackburn for several years and this year we are hoping the BIG Christmas Street Fair will be the launch pad for something bigger in the years to come.
“We have focused on some large-scale events, such as the award-winning Countryside Comes to Town over the last few years, to attract families to Blackburn. We are hoping the Street Fair will have an even wider appear with something for children right though to people who want to enjoy some festive food and drink and enjoy a unique shopping and entertainment experience.”
The Street Fair is part of 4 BIG Saturdays organised by Blackburn BID in partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council. The following week on Saturday 17th December sees the spectacular Lantern Parade with fire performances and the Fireworks over the Cathedral and the traditional Community Carol Service.
